Dealing Scientific Astronomers printing my food VS. Natures. No thanks, I rather eat Natures foods such as: seafoods, water coconut.

I don’t think anyone is against the scientific benefits from the telescope, it’s the location. Just build it somewhere else. The mountain is sacred to Hawaiians and the government needs to respect that.

I think the protesters are looking at this from the wrong perspective. The Hawaiians from long ago were some the best on earth at their knowledge of the cosmos and would have been absolutely thrilled to have such an amazing device on their mountain to further their studies. The mountain is still sacred with a telescope on it.

Sounds reasonable to remove one for each new one they put up. Ancient Hawaiian navigators/astronomers would have been blown away at the chance to see distant planets

    To be clear:
According to National and International Law, Government's oath is to act according to the rule of law; and protection of the people's rights. Human rights violations are war crimes (in this case for Mauna Kea); regarding the Native Tennant Rights with the people and sacred lands.

Maybe comprises by removing the 12 existing telescopes and build the 30 meter one??? Don’t need the others if the TMT one is superior! Or just simply build it somewhere else… I like that option instead!!!

Some information I think most people against TMT don’t actually know… it won’t be visible from the summit or lake Waiau or any burials. It will also be a mile away from the closest worship site and does not sit on a site where any traditional culture is practiced. Also they plan to decommission 5 of the 13 scopes at the summit and fully restore the land leaving only 9 amazingly useful telescopes. For everyone that thinks this scope will ruin there aquifer, it will be a closed loop system and any waste will be piped off the mountain and fully treated, leaving no pollution to water or mountain. Runs off of normal power grid with a normal A/C Not a nuclear reactor. A survey taken in 2018 had a 78% approval rate among locals. TMT is also going to use local workers and not outsource. With millions donated to local schools and the agreement to work with culture and pay a million in rent a year(other scopes have not had to pay any rent). There is enough space for culture and science to live in harmony on Mauna Kea.

Billions of who's $$$$$$ to try to find ET? This is the ultimate welfare job. Spend the rest of your useless life trying to find something that is not there and cannot be there. If the astronomers want the telescope then they can pay for it. Get your head out of the clouds and put your feet on the earth.

So when they don’t find anything, what’s next an 80 meter telescope? What are we giving up for all your wrong answers? They should have to disassemble all the out of date ones in order to build the next ones. Use the one foundation, electrical and plumbing and expand the foundation pad. Simple

Polynesians found these islands by looking at the stars. Now your going to cry about a telescope that is tiny on a Giant mountain That can benefit the whole human race. Think bigger than that bible you got from the same people who took your land. Sorry

It could destroy life on earth. The holy grail of the world most active volcanoes is the sister mountain to mauna kea and ahe has been firing for quite a whike now. Why would you build something so big that needs to go down 30 stories possibly disturbing the water plate on a active hotspot. The ring of fire effects the entire pacific rim. Be smarter.

If Hawai'i never existed are these people telling me that there would be no other place on earth to build a telescope? Because it seems like people think that this is the only option. But in reality this is about respect and not about science. If they let TMT be built then there will never be any way to stop them from completely taking over all our islands. Our nation and land was illegally taken. It's our home and we dont want it there. The fact that people promote the abuse of stolen land, is despicable. They dont want to take down the ones that are decomissioned because of history. But what about OUR HISTORY? it's ok to destroy OUR history for the sake of theirs? That's insensitive to us as a whole and disingenuous to our respect to the land. Now look at O'ahu. It is completely unsustainable because of the same mentality of "oh what 1 more building gonna hurt", "what's another city gonna hurt"? Do you people not see what has happened. O'ahu is completely unsustainable. We rely on importation of good because all the farmland that was once use to keep our people sustained and self sufficient has been taken away for consumer commodities that in 200 years has taken away our power and ability to take care of ourselves. We dont want this happening to ALL of our land. And if this telescope is build then there is nothing stopping people from destroying it all. We kept our people sustained for 1000 years. And in only 200 years after western colonization we are now at a point that the 1 million people on O'ahu would die if importation stopped. If that's not a red flag then you are blinded by greedy multinational corporate conglomerates that are just using all of you. As humans it is our job to use the land and be sustainable. This system currently is not. Were arent just fighting a telescope, this is about the integrity of our entire home and land. Much bigger than a telescope. If you cant understand that then you have no culture and have no sustainability. If you had those things you would agree with what I'm saying. One day technology will be so good that you won't need specific places to put a telescope because you will be putting them in space. Wait till then and be patient. Stop railroading our culture for you impatience.
